("Bioterio") The platform is made up of professionals and technicians dedicated to the maintenance, production and reproduction of rodents (rats and mice) for scientific purposes.
Both the welfare of the animals and the procedures implemented are continuously monitored by the University's bioethics committee, which regulates, reviews and enforces strict control standards for all experiments involving animals as the object of study.
The use of animals in research requires a moral and legal obligation to safeguard welfare and cause as little suffering as possible.
The growing demand for animal models has led to the emergence of a multidisciplinary branch of science called "animal science" and the Institute of Biomedical Neuroscience is no stranger to this reality.
(Drosophila melanogaster)
The Drosophila-BNI platform provides consultancy for experiments with Drosophila melanogaster, better known as the vinegar fly. Among the services provided by the platform are:
- Providing appropriate strains, including ordering and amplification.
- Performance of behavioral and immunofluorescence experiments.
- Molecular analysis and experiments at the expense of the laboratory concerned.

Given their characteristics and the experimental advantages they offer for their study in the laboratory (optical transparency of embryos and larvae, ease of genetic, physical and chemical manipulation, among others), teleost fish are vertebrate models that allow the study of animal ontogeny, from embryonic development to aging.
In addition, they facilitate the analysis of cellular and molecular processes associated with diseases of biomedical relevance and biological processes of biotechnological application.
The BioMat-BNI Biomathematics Platform is a specialized, interdisciplinary team of engineers in computer science, electronics, physics and mathematics, which accompanies the design and use of advanced equipment for image processing and massive data storage at BNI, SCIAN-Lab, CIMT, CENS and REDECA.
BioMat-BNI is oriented to support BNI laboratory scientists and collaborating researchers through the development, application, training and access to services in quantitative methods for advanced microscopy, image processing, 3D design, and massive data storage.
